On February 14-16, the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov paid a working visit to Kabul in order to take part in the International Conference on combating terrorism and expansion of regional cooperation to eliminate terrorist threats.

Yatimov held separate meetings with Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation Abdullah Abdullah, First Deputy President Amrullah Saleh, Speaker of the Parliament Mir Rahman Rahmani, Chairman of the National Security Council Hamdullah Mohib, Head of the National Directorate of Security Ahmad Zia Saraj, Minister of Foreign Affairs Hanif Atmar, and other senior Afghan officials and representatives.

The parties discussed the security situation between the two countries and the region, mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of reliable protection of the state border, combating terrorism and extremism, arms and drug trafficking, and exchanged views on these issues.

The Tajik side noted Tajikistan’s commitment to ensuring stability and security in Afghanistan and emphasized its importance for both countries and the region. The conclusion of negotiations between the warring parties, the end of the war in Afghanistan, and the prevention of targeted and undesirable activities of stakeholders through the use of international terrorist groups are among the most important factors in ensuring security.

The parties fully agreed on the issues discussed and stressed that the two countries are ready to further strengthen and expand good-neighborly relations in political, economic, cultural and, in particular, security spheres to promote peace and stability in the region.
